Teaching

I have experience teaching introductory and upper-division courses, both in person and online, and have been serving as a primary instructor for the last two years. I believe that students learn best when they are interested, invested, and confident. As such, my classes are inherently discussion-based, allowing students to engage with current events and topics that they are passionate about.

Teaching is immensely important to me, and I have dedicated a significant amount of time to improving it. I completed the UKY Certificate in College Teaching and Learning in the Fall of 2025. This certificate requires 12 additional hours of classes devoted to improving instruction methods and understanding the world of higher education and student development.

However, my teaching style and prowess are not just talk. I have received consistently and significantly higher than average Teacher Course Evaluations in my time as a primary instructor. I also have earned recognition as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant for the College of Arts and Sciences, one of five honorees in the social sciences. I also currently serve as the Co-Head Teaching Assistant for the Department of Political Science.

I've had the opportunity to both update and create syllabi for multiple in-person and online classes. For each of my courses, I've had the freedom to create new activities, assignments, and content that builds on the way the courses were previously taught.   For one course, Law and Justice 201: Introduction to Law and Justice, I was the first person to teach it online and developed the entire course from scratch.

Below, I've attached a graph plotting my average scores alongside those of the department and the college for the same period. My scores are in green on the left, followed by the department average in red, and the college average in blue. I am especially proud that the areas in which I score the highest are teaching quality, effective communication, and student respect.
